This report (bilingual English-French) prepared by the Technical Committee on Road Tunnel Operations (C3.3) is an update of the report "Fire and Smoke Control in Road Tunnels" published in 1999 and reprinted in 2004.

This 344-page report draws the lessons from the fires that occurred in the alpine tunnels and makes recommendations on ventilation, emergency exits, fire detection and fire fighting equipment, and operational responsibilities in case of emergency.
