8th edition of the Technical Dictionary of Road Terms

  • This eighth edition of the Technical Dictionary of Road Terms is published by the World Road Association (PIARC) on the occasion of the XXIIIrd World Road Congress hosted in Paris in September 2007. This eighth edition of the Technical Dictionary of Road Terms is published by the World Road Association (PIARC) on the occasion of the XXIIIrd World Road Congress hosted in Paris in September 2007. This edition is released 80 years after the creation in 1927 of the first PIARC international committee dealing with nomenclature of construction modes and materials. The interest shown by PIARC for terminology issues has since remained constant and is part of the mission of the Association to promote the dissemination of knowledge in the area of road and road transport. This eighth edition is the outcome of the continuous efforts to update not only the Technical Dictionary of Road Terms, but also the Lexicon, several specialized dictionaries and an increasing number of language versions of the Technical Dictionary of Road Terms. I congratulate the Technical Committee on Terminology and Translation Assistance for the considerable amount of work achieved, and especially its Chairman, Patrice Retour, for the development of the terminology database on the PIARC website and for the preparation of this edition.
